A revival of the long-running horror series 'Phantasm' has been announced, via a teaser poster for the proposed fifth instalment, 'Phantasm: Ravager.' The artwork premiered at Ain't It Cool News, who "vouch 100% for its legit-ness" - and hint that the film "may be ready for you to see sooner than you think." [Maniac director takes on Amityville Horror] The brainchild of writer-director Don Coscarelli, the series was launched by the original 'Phantasm' in 1979. A very low budget independent production, it wound up grossing almost $12 million at the box office, and became a hit with horror fans in the early days of video. Key to its long-standing cult appeal is its bizarre, genre-twisting premise and surreal content, centring as it does on a sinister undertaker known only as the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) who is stealing bodies for his own mysterious purposes. However, when young orphan Mike (Michael Baldwin), his elder brother Jody (Bill Thornbury) and their buddy Reg (Reggie Bannister) investigate the matter, they are little prepared for the nightmarish world it throws them into. It's a thoroughly weird, sometimes funny, often disturbing blend of parallel universes, ghoulish dwarves, and - most iconic of all - deadly silver spheres which fly through the air and drill into the brains of unsuspecting victims.
